What is ICP-MS?

Trace metals and ultra-trace elemental analysis is most effectively performed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). In ICP-MS analysis, a sample is introduced into a plasma medium where its atoms are converted into ions. These ions are then separated and detected by a mass spectrometer, so you can identify metals and impurities in your sample even at extremely low concentrations.

Applications of ICP-MS

ICP-MS testing at LTS is optimized for speed and sensitivity and can be used in a wide range of applications. Our ICP-MS instrumentation provides ultra-trace elemental analysis to identify and quantify elements down to the sub-ppb (parts per billion) range. This is critical for testing hazardous heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury in order to ensure your products are safe and to prevent product recalls. Coupled with our specialized microwave digester, we’re able to process even the most difficult sample matrices, ranging from pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements to polymers, chemical solutions, plastics, and other consumer goods.

Related Services at LTS include:

  • Trace elemental assays
  • Heavy metals testing
  • Inorganic impurities screenings
  • Failure analysis and quality control testing
  • R&D – Product research and development
